Local Karatekas Prevail as Youth Karate Dazzles in Guadalajara

The 2025 Karate 1 Youth League in Guadalajara, Spain, continued with high energy as the third day of competition wrapped up with the crowning of cadet champions. The event has drawn over 3,000 young athletes from 80 countries, making it one of the biggest global gatherings for youth karate.

Cadet Kata Female – Nerea Teixeira Gregorio Claims Gold for Spain

Nerea Teixeira Gregorio earned a close but impressive win in the Cadet Kata Female category. Performing with poise, the Spanish athlete edged out Giulia Manca of Belgium with a final score of 24.20 to 24.10.

Cadet Kata Male – León de la Peña Tops All-Spanish Final

Spain celebrated again in the Cadet Kata Male final. José Ángel León de la Peña delivered a strong performance to defeat fellow Spaniard Elisey Yagudin Gritsenko. León de la Peña scored 24.50 to Gritsenko’s 24.10, securing gold for the host nation.

Cadet Kumite Female -47 kg – Kotenko Dominates for Ukraine

Vierónika Kotenko of Ukraine proved too strong in the -47 kg kumite final. She controlled the bout, beating Presley Allen of the United States 5-1.

Cadet Kumite Female -54 kg – Goncalves Grabs Title for Portugal

Leonor Goncalves of Portugal put on a solid display of timing and technique in the -54 kg final. She outscored Adriana Boyadzhieva of Bulgaria 5-2 to claim the top spot.

In the final bout of the cadet division, Andre Aguiar of Portugal edged past Levy Blumink of the Netherlands in a 4-4 match. Aguiar took the win on tie-breaking criteria, closing the day with a dramatic finish.

 

As the Karate 1 Youth League continues, the athletes have already left a strong mark on Guadalajara. The competition continues Sunday with the final day of action.
